CERN is the world’s largest nuclear physics research center. It was established in 1954 by twelve European countries on the Franco–Swiss border. The numerous awards received by scientists and researchers working at this prestigious international scientific center—including six Nobel Prizes—demonstrate CERN’s significance in global scientific exchange.

The Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences (IPM), as Iran’s representative, began its collaboration with CERN in 2000 through the implementation of a research project. In order to expand cooperation with CERN, the Center—acting as the secretariat—prepared, in 2019, a guideline for supporting universities and research institutes with the potential to collaborate with CERN. This guideline was formally communicated to universities by the Minister of Science, Research and Technology.
