TWAS is an independent international academy that was established in 1983 with the aim of advancing science in all fields in developing countries. At present, more than one thousand scientists from 81 countries are members of TWAS, 23 of whom are Iranian.

The goals of TWAS are to support high‑quality research in developing countries, provide research facilities to outstanding scientists in these countries, and encourage collaboration between scientists in developed and developing countries.
