Open Letter from Iranian University Professors to the Global Scientific CommunityEsteemed Members of the Global Scientific Community,Knowledge is the alchemy of humanity, a precious gem that has honored mankind with the status of the noblest creation. In the early hours of Friday, June 12, 2024, Iran’s scientific community witnessed a horrific crime targeting this invaluable human heritage. The Zionist regime, in blatant violation of international law, violated our country’s airspace and martyred a group of our most eminent scientists and brightest stars of science in this land. These distinguished scholars – Dr. Abdolhamid Minouchehr, Dr. Ahmadreza Zolfaghari, Dr. Seyed Amirhossein Feghhi, Dr. Akbar Motallebizadeh, Dr. Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi, and Dr. Fereydoun Abbasi – who had devoted their precious lives to the advancement and elevation of science in service to humanity, fell victim to a sinister conspiracy aimed solely at halting Iran’s scientific progress.The silence of international institutions in the face of such aggression is both disheartening and alarming. We, members of Iran’s academic community, with hearts filled with sorrow yet steadfast in our belief in the universal values of science and knowledge, urgently call upon you, our scientific colleagues worldwide, to:1. Issue formal statements denouncing this act of scientific terrorism;2. Take a stance against this atrocity in your scientific gatherings;3. Demand that international scientific bodies to explicitly reject such violence and uphold the protection of scientists worldwide.The land of Iran has long been the capital of science and the nurturing ground for scholars whose practical achievements and jurisprudential legacy now stand as clear evidence of the scientific authority of Iranian civilization. Our martyred scientists worked in fields such as clean energy, artificial intelligence, medical nanotechnology, and radiation safety – all domains dedicated to improving human life. Their scientific papers have been published in leading international journals, cited by peers across disciplines, and integrated into collaborative projects with researchers from diverse nations. This barbaric act by the Zionist regime constitutes not only a flagrant violation of Iran’s national sovereignty but also a direct assault on the dignity of science and researchers who have strived through the seven-stage tribulation of ignorance, war, and calamity to save humanity.We deeply believe the global scientific community must stand united against such crimes. The assassination of a scientist is the assassination of humanity’s future. Today this crime has occurred in Iran, but tomorrow any child of science anywhere in the world could fall victim to similar acts.We implore you, esteemed scholars, to stand with us in condemning this outrage.
